Serious question. To tell you the truth I have been on both sides of the ball and I can surely say that being the ignorant jock has more advantages. I was always intelligent and played lots of sports in high school and was very active and social in my younger years. During these times I had a great life while women were interested in me and I considered myself a catch....well, I just graduated with a masters in biochemistry and have found a great pharmaceutical company to work for but I feel like I am not wanted any more by women or those friends who I considered to be hip and fresh. I have invested the last 6 years of my life in academics and feel like there is not too much to show for it but depression and insecurity, not only because my looks decreased because of my time consuming schedule but also because I put my social skills on hold. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and I am working with the most brilliant people on Earth but at the end of the day I feel like an outsider

I know most people will say that it doesn't matter what other people say and that what i'm saying is very vain...but in the long run we reap what we sow...I am very athletic and feel like I could have been the one people look at but now I'm on the outside looking in

Wow, I'm so sorry that you feel that way after all that work! I don't understand why an intelligent man would not be as attractive to women, but if you say it's happening, I believe you. Some social facts do not make sense to me.

But on the other hand, your social situation sounds like it is due to the studying you have had to do, which is time consuming. It's more about being in college than being a smart nerd. And college can be much more work and less fun than high school. Now you just have to find some happiness at your job or switch to another one. Maybe you do not relate well to some of the co-workers who may be the true nerds.

The Nerd. Why? Because look at what you said about yourself:

Women were interested in you before first because your look and obvious athletic prowess and yet you were still smart, but they couldn't see that at first glance, and probably most did not care.

And now, you have a great career which many a "jock" envies and that career will still be around long after their injuries sideline them for life. And also what a shallow existence to have, getting women but never really knowing why they want you. Surely, you want a woman to love the real you?

You have social skills, just because you had to put your social life second, never underestimate. You probably have "game" as they say but it's just a bit rusty. Stop complaining about what you do not think you have. Most models do NOT date jocks, we date the guys like you. So, you don't fit in at work, so do a lot of persons. And when it comes down to it, work is work, it's not exactly part of your agenda to go there and make friends, you get a life outside work, and remember you are still a jock at heart. Woman love a smart man who works hard and has something to show for it because that surely is more security than a person who's got his hot bod, ability to draw groupies and other ego "baggage" (pure garbage to a relationship) we do not want to deal with.

Smart nerd because I am and I'm happy but I guess that's only for certain people like myself. Since I'm very unsocial it's easy for me to be the nerd, as a matter of fact I love being the outsider. But I'm not like you, I haven't experienced both sides. Sorry to hear that you wish you where still the ripped jock, I don't know what to tell you. A lot of women prefer brains over looks (I know I do) and I'm sure you'll find someone great one day.

Maybe u should use Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde as an inspiration! From what I remember Einstein had a pretty interesting undergrad life and this was before he published that landmark paper of his...what I mean to say is don't make choices when you really don't have to...

i know it can be hard when you feel like you don't fit in. maybe if you join a sports team or gym in your spare time. then you can meet other people who have the same interests as you outside of work. remember that everyone will feel like they don't fit in at some stage. i did for a while and was approached by someone asking for advice on how to fit in. i started laughing because to me they fitted in better than i did.

I'd rather be a ripped nerd. Why? Being a jock entails running around and chasing balls. Frankly, I find that to be terribly boring and pointless.

I do not know if I would call myself a nerd: BUT I am more intelligent than most and definitely not a rippedjock. MY NEXT LIFE: Definitely brawn and no brain.
