go ask Wachovia, who laid off 2,000 computer programmers and built an IT department in India.
go ask Bank of America; who built a call center in India and laid off hundreds of service clerks.

I know people who graduated from college with BS degrees, and they're working at Domino's because no one is hiring for their field.

Today; a real human being is earning a living, raising a family, and enjoying life thanks to western outsourcing. If you or your friends really wants those entry-level Industrial Manufacturing job.....you may just be setting your sights too low.

It's NOT anyone's hiring college-degreed people in business; it's the business world is looking for cheaper labor.....and finding it in India: the new "Mexico". This a reason why India is on the industrial fast track of the global-business world; Asian countries have "minimum" wage salaries far lower than U.S. standards--and it's all legal.......for now.

If investigations were deeply done in these "downsized" businesses, evidence could very well arise they laid off workers for NO reason--other than to find cheaper labor, which saves $$$$ and brings in higher administrative profits (and salaries for THEM....not you!!!).

And the score now is: White Collar Administration (crooks): 10
Laid off worker: 0. Foreign replacement low wage worker: 3.

I really do forsee a mega-business scandal of this type soon arising that will pale the one that did Enron in. White collar business administrators either will get trucked off to jail....or meet death by a "freak accident" and the laid off workers (and their attorneys) will have a field day in court. Maybe then, the meek will truly inherit the world.....and again: the day is soon comming.

Instead of being a protectionist and crying about the problem do something! Change and update your skills and become competitive in the marketplace. That’s how capitalism works. Lots of people are making millions to billions of dollars because they are up-to-date with the state-of-the art in technology.

I’m a computer programmer and have no problem finding jobs. In fact my salary has been going up about every 6 months. Why? Because I make sure that I am worth 10 times more than an outsourced Indian programmer.

I thought it was happening to high tech folks more than factory jobs. People of Mexico and central America are taking over our hardest manual labor jobs and people of India, China, Russia, Eastern Europe and Brazil are taking over our toughest professional jobs as well...and for much the same reason - they work for less money and are every bit as good or better. So unemployed people with BS degrees need to go back to school and get graduate degrees in fields that they can get work in or learn a new language and head abroad (that is what I plan to do) To think that the government will do something about this is naive .. we must as individuals jump the hurdles in front of us

Its just companies trying to save $ by not having to support high priced non-core talent in their organization. Outsourcing permeates all types of business:

Outsourcing (or contracting out) is often defined as the delegation of non-core operations or jobs from internal production within a business to an external entity (such as a subcontractor) that specializes in that operation. Outsourcing is a business decision that is often made to lower costs or focus on competencies.

Its not that the jobs aren't out there, its that many companies have optimized providing such capability as a packaged service.

you read Hillary's book of lies, this book will prove how bad she detests the Military, along with B. Clinton and VP Al Gore was even worse than I ever thought, these people have no right to be in public office. They sold this country to the highest DNC payoffs. It's sickening to think they are building a memorial to Clinton, his "library of shame"! "The Library of LIES." I saw the book review and presentation by Mr. Patterson on TV, he was frank, honest, sincere and a true patriot to this nation. He went on to tell how the White House was in complete disarray for 8 years; impeachment in my mind was too good for these arrogant nepotists. Hope the populace of New York State and New York City can read this book before they vote; should be required reading for all Democrats and GOP before they vote

well... I think early on... in the 80s and 90s it was mostly factory jobs moving to poor countries with cheap labor

BUT YES... indeed this is becoming yet another trend more recently... more office jobs going overseas...

but, what will be interesting is... those who hold office jobs vote... and I think the more it becomes common, the more it will become a campaign issue and the more attitudes will change...

why do you think that anyone thinks that only (or even mostly) manufacturing jobs are being sent to other countries

any kind of job that can be sent abroad are being sent because it makes good economic sense

why would anyone pay americans $20 per hour when they could hire mexicans or indians to do it for $1 per hour

why would mexicans turn down $1 per hour when they are unemployed or working for less

Lots of companies do this. It's so they can make more money while giving us more services at lower prices. I'm going to outsource and offshore myself next year (I'm self-employed) because I can no longer compete here in the US and have to lower my expenses. Panama's looking good . . .
