Unfortunately, in Arabia, they use small children as Camel Jockeys to ride these camels during the races. Its a very big sport amongst the Sheikhs, as owning the fastest camel can be considered a status symbol. So they get these little boys from Pakistan mostly, when they are only a few years old. The poor families are happy to give up these kids to the Camel farms. One less mouth to feed and besides they get some money in return. The reason these boys are picked is their small size. The idea being that the smaller the jokey, the faster the camel can run.

There was a lot protests about this activity in the past few years. The BBC ran a few doumentries about this gross practice of child abuse. Eventually the local authorities, especially in the United Arab Emirates, have taken action and have banned the use of these small children. Instead, they have begun to use these mechanical jockeys. So now you see a lot of mini sized Robots riding on Camels. A mechanical Camel Jokey!
