If you actually took time to read the Bible it VERY CLEARLY STATES IN MULTIPLE PLACES TO SPECIFICALLY KILL YOUR CHILD if they curse you, and other things. Take them to the gates and stone them to death.

This isn't violence, this is pathetic.

There's a difference in beating and discipline - the curvature of a child's rearend is in proximity in size to the curvature of the mother's hand - is that by accident - I think not - does this mean I'm to leave a bruise - no - does this mean that a good swat will break his spirit or will teach him to respect the fact that as his parent I am his authority and until he is of an age to wisely choose and make choices, my authority is what he is accountable too - yes - I detest any person who cannot control their own rage or shortcomings and find that a child makes for a good whipping post - but I do find that more parents ought to use the two naturals to teach their children respect, for themselves, for authority, because without it - there is a lack of discipline - a child does not have conceptual development for communication in the early years, but he does understand a wasp sting and that he does not want another - even as adults it is not until we suffer enough pain that we choose to make a change - why should a child be any different?

referring to christians, so heres my opinion. this is a hard question. If I was a father to a child, spanking and beating must happen. But I dont dare "break that childs spirit" even though I see clearly the evil inside the child. I dont dare cross that fine line. I dont dare cause a bruise, for regrets will be big and I couldn't live happy with such deep heartaches.

Dont know about other christians/family point of view; but I guess spanking/beating just have to happen once inawhile, for nearly half the group. Look christians know that they have very good spirit, very good belief-- they know God Almighty. then who better to teach the child dicipline (manners or wisdom) ?
Wisdom tells me stop harsh punishment/ dicipline to a child at age 10. About "effective initiation into a God" my anser is no. Initiation into holy spirit for your child? you must not try and do that alone-- not your own way. holy spirit is greater than your wisdom, your own life. you really are blessed for asking such question here. And I dont care if you're christian or not.

no, i do not believe that most christians do believe in giving their child a good beating.. it say in the bible to spare the rod and it ruins the child, or something like that, spoils the child.. but my dad did not beat us .. he just talked to us real stern and we do he meant it...i do not think breaking the spirit of anyone is good..i do not agree that anyone even prison guards should be allowed to break someones spirit unless they are really high strung dangerous people...and god is not enthralled by violence at all.. he loves us all and wants us all to repent and be saved..he does not want any of us to perish..

Why are you asking Christians that question? There are people that beat their kids, but it's not limited to a religious group. Sounds like you're a little bitter about something... And no, God would not be "enthralled" with parents beating kids.

Sure - Christianity is a religion founded on torturing to death the beloved founder.

And the central symbol of worship - the cross - is an instrument of torture.

Poor kids, they got it comin'. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" "Who is loved is chastised" "Tough love" and equally insane misunderstandings of how love works demonstrate how torture all-sorts is a central christian tenet.

"Happiness is reached through suffering - look at how Jesus suffered to death and how good he was at taking it, in order to get to God" - is the morale.

Look at the old testament vengeful God - not someone you'd want to share flat with!

Christains aren't the only one to beat children. It depends on the parent's personality as to whether or not the beat the child. You are very ignorant to think this way, and that's just the truth, plain and simple.

I don't know any Christians as a group that "beat" their children. Where in the world did that come from?

***I'm not biased because I'm not a Christian....just someone with common sense.

Adam and Eve ate the apple and brouhgt sin to the world, not God, God simply set terms and conditions for us to live by. times change and people change; to correct a child in private, and not break his or her spirit is ok as long as they know that they are loved and they understand its to teach them right from wrong. yes they used to stone people but Jesus showed us to forgive. once a kid came into alot of trouble and he said to me, I wish my parents loved me enough to spank me, to teach me.
