The modern World Series has been an annual event since 1903, with the exceptions of 1904 and 1994

The years were 1904 and 1994.
The reason for the 1904 was because it was still new to the National and American leagues since there had only been one before. The National League thought that the American League was under them and inferior since the Natonal League was a lot better and older. President of the National League and National League champion New York Giants refused to play the American League champions the Boston Americans. He later reversed his decision. But no World Series was played that year. It was like the American Football League and the National Football League. The NFL felt AFL was below them.
In 1994 it was due to the strike because owners demanded a salary cap

1994 and 1904.
Also it's been a best of 7 each year except 1903, 1919, 1920 and 1921 when it was decided by the best of 9. Interesting tidbit.
