We recently moved to Little Rock and my 11 year old son said he saw a 'jiggaboo' in our backyard looking at our bike. I would imagine it was a small animal. Is it slang for one, like say a pollywog for a tadpole? What is a jiggaboo?

It is a nasty racist word and you know very well what it means. Shame on you for posting that. You are lower than a snake.

Haha obviously you are attempting to be humorous. Or just an attempt to get people riled up here on Yahoo Answers. I don't think that you are serious, at least I hope not. Anyway, yes it is a very derogatory slang word for a black person. No you cannot call a company to get rid of them. No you should not move. No you should not worry. They are just people, just like me and you. The only difference is the amount of pigment in their skin. In any case, if you are (and rightfully so) concerned that this person is going to steal the bicycle, contact the police, or lock things up and set up a camera etc. Treat this as if a white person acted the same way so that you do not pre-judge the person. And you should also teach your 11-year old that it is no OK to use these words to describe people based on their skin. He can still describe people, if he sees someone acting suspicious, he can say there is a suspicious man out back, but implying that it is a black person and because of that fact only, you are worried. If there was a suspicious person, black or white, out back looking to steal a bike, call the police. Get a fence. Or a gun.

Why is in not ok for that boy to say jiggaboo, when Im sure the jiggaboo was casing the "crackers" home and no one finds that offensive....

Not to mention you call 'em like you see 'em, if its a a black person on the street its ok, if its a jiggaboo casing your property its a jiggaboo.

Originally, "Jiggaboo" or "jigabo" came from the Chiluba word "tshikabo," meaning meek or servile. It came to have an offensive meaning in English.

Perhaps you should find out where your son is getting such language from.

A jiggapoo is a cross between a duck billed platypus and a maribou stork. I don't know about a jiggaboo.

I do believe that is slang for a black person. I would talk to your son about it. And put your bike in the garage or lock it up somehow!
