Good question. This is all interconnected from the sixties. Fidel Castro was considered to be a ruthless dicatator in Cuba, and fearing that he would go communist, the USA wanted his removal from office. Problem was, the US did not want to play a hand in it, so they supplied and trained revolutionary guerrilas from Cuba and had them shipped to fight against Castro. The resistance was crushed immediately and Castro found out that the US had a part. (Bay of Pigs) Castro went communist and started to bring in ICBMs into his country from the Soviet Union. The US looked at it as a threat and among other things, banned Cuban trade into the US. It was called the Embargo Act and to this day, it is illegal to have cuban made items for sale in the US. Unfortunately, this is why Cuban Cigars are illegal. It is a funny implication, because this made the cuban cigar more elusive. Back when there was no Embargo Act, Cuban cigars were considered well made, but not much different than those manufactured from Haiti or Dominican Republic. And the same goes for today. Most of the time when you buy a cuban cigar its more for the novelty of smoking something illegal.

In the United States, Cuba is subject to a trade embargo. This makes it illegal to trade goods to or from Cuba except in specific humanitarian cases. This embargo has been in effect more or less since the Cuban revolution (led by Fidel Castro) deposed the U.S.-friendly government of Fulgencio Batista in 1959.

Many other countries, such as Canada, maintain regular trade relationships with Cuba, and so Cuban cigars (and other goods from Cuba) can be purchased there.

Because we have a trade embargo on Cuba. That is the one and only reason. Everything made there is illegal.

There is a trade embargo that dates back to the '60's. Since then Cuba cannot export anything to the U.S.

Because there is still a trade embargo on with Cuba - you are not legally allowed to own anything that came directly from Cuba, and you're not allowed to travel there is you're a US citizen.

The USA has no diplomatic relationship with Communist Cuba. Therefore, there is not supposed to be any trading of goods between the two countries.

its a trade embargo, funny thing is you can buy cigars that were made of cuban tobacco but grown in another country. I wouldnt bother with it though because dominican cigars are better, cheaper, and they wont get you arrested.

Because we have (and have had since Castro took over years back) a trade embargo with Cuba. Nothin' from 'em, nothin' to 'em.

Trade embargo. Because the U.S. hates communism.
