Definitely should have your own.

Better to use your own for one main purpose. College computers labs have strict control over their systems to guard against students from installing or downloading inappropriate content, which tends to also block legitimate use. Some computers at the college I attended required a password in order to access the Internet and/or visit sites that haven't been rated (Yahoo was blocked).

Get a laptop with wireless capability and have your own mobile workspace without the limited hours, content blockers, and crowded labs.

It is quite beneficial to have your own. You just never know if the computer lab is going to be down...sometimes the internet is slow because there are so many users...there can be restrictions to what websites you can view (this could create a problem if you are doing research)...not to mention the hours that computer lab are open may not fit your schedule.

I always save my school work on a memory card and take it to school with me so I can work on stuff while still at school, though. This was beneficial to me because I lived so far away from the school and would need to work on stuff between classes.

Computers are so affordable now...might as well spring for it. If you can't afford a printer, that's ok...just save all your stuff to a disk or memory card and take it to school to print!!!!

If it is the difference between a very nice bedspread or 300 dollars more in new clothes,,,,, make no MISTAKE. YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR OWN GOOD COMPUTER IN YOUR DORM ROOM FOR NOONE ELSE'S USE. Except ,aybe your roomate if you trust her. Goign to the computer lab over and over again to write a darn paper will get old FAST. Get a computer - do whatever you can to convince your parents to allow for a computer, you will need it for 4 grueling years of higher education.

I am sure it depends on the college you are attending. I noticed that you used the wrong form of "their." Jus to let you know...their shows possession. In spite of my intelligence, I did not learn this unitl I began typing documents in the education department at Ohio State University for my work-study job while attending college. The computer kept correcting my usage of their (there, they're) until I finally got it. I use this example now in my classroom as a life-long learning goal.

I use my own computer. The schools computers have so many restrictions that it is sometimes difficult to do research. I have wireless internet access so I don't have to depend on the schools internet connection to get access to information... plus I can still chat with my friends and let them watch me in class on my webcam!

It's nice to have your own for personal business and school work but, being in the computer lab has it's advantages. You can get help if you need it and you can use theirs to make copies. I seem to get more work done when I am in the lab.

You have to have your own if they don't supply one in your dorm room~you don't want to have to walk across campus from the library late at night, alone, or in the bad weather. Don't EVER walk alone--it's too dangerous, regardless of the size of the campus!! Just remember, be considerate of your roommate if you're up late typing--that noise can drive a person crazy! not to mention the lighted screen!

We bought our daughter a laptop and don't believe it was worth the money, she thought she'd travel about campus with it, but she never has (in 3 years now) she fears it's being stolen and prefers to do her work in the comfort of her own room.
