It is not possible for a placenta to slip. The placenta is attached to the uterus by a large network of blood vessels-it is securely attached. If it were to detach before the baby was born, which is rare but possible (known as placenta abruptio), you would have severe pain, massive blood loss, and you and your baby would be in very big trouble.
A baby at 38 weeks who has not dropped is fine, especially if this is not your first baby. A low lying placenta (placenta previa) may cause the baby not to drop, depending on where the placenta is, and the baby.

just keep an eye on it. In all reality i would try not to be by yourself if u could or make sure someone can get to were u are fast....not trying to scare u but i had placenta previa, that moved up, and then at 36 weeks had an abruption(after being told everything would be fine). I had to be rushed to the hospital and if i wouldn't have been take by ambulance right when i did things could have went really bad. Every since then everytime someones tells me something about previa or low lying placentaes i just feel like i have to tell them to please be with someone at all times when u are close to delivery. I'm really surprised that they didn't induce you since u are considered full term.
Also my daughter was never dropped either...the placenta was in the way. I personally think the pressure of her trying to move down is what cause my abruption.
Everyone is different though, so u could be completely fine, like i said before i just feel like i need to tell people how it COULD go. Good Luck & your in my thoughts
Also i just wanted to add when i had the abruption there was no pain until after it happened and it happened all at once...

If the placenta is near or covering the cervix you will have to have a c-section to keep you from hemmoraging and bleeding to death! Call and ask your doctor for more details about this, I would also request an ultrasound to determine where the placenta is located. As far as the baby dropping, don't concern yourself about that too much!

Slipping what way? Quite normal for placenta to cover cervix and move out of the way later... Like everyone else says, call your doctor - I'm sure there's a nurse there who would be more than happy to calm your nerves for you :)

If the placenta gets too low (called a placenta previa), you will have to have a c-section to deliver - check with your doc, especially since you are term.

I suppose its a possibilty.
You should pin your doctor down and ask what this means and what you can expect-- and what steps are you taking from here.
Best of luck!
