To Sameroise:
Every rule has an exception and Malaysia, Indonasia are such exceptions. But, in majority countries, non muslims have been oppressed, which is a fact.
Regarding minority status, take the example of India. They are creating problems and are demanding seperate states. And it is same every where (Recent example: France)

This is a question with as many faucets as there are answers. It is my opinion tho, that this new era of conflict is based on a political, economic and religous oppression. We in the west had our age of reason... the renisaunce. Where 100 of years of religous and political persicusion were over come and free thought and freewill were allowed to flurish. In the Middle East, they have yet to have thier rebirth of reason. Religious Mullas tout religious propaganda to do the same as the christian church did to the christians before the rebirth of reason...They use religion as a tool to keep people down, to opress free thought and freewill. And as the christian church before them it was for power and control. So part of the answer to your question is for the Middle eastern people to do the same as the chiristians and thro off the yoke of conservitive religion and return to an age of reason that existed in the middle east for hundreds of years when it was the fountain of knowlede and cultural expansion.
Political opression is also a very distint reason for the opression of modern Middle Easteners. Ruthless dictators and religious mulla stiffle at every opportunity the expansion of economic grouth. They do not want there people economically free. They would loose there power. Arabs and Persians just need to shake the religous and political chains of slavery they are entangled in. Thier Age of Reason awaits them.. I believe if they did this they would return to the World as great and powerful nations of knowlege and culture that is there birth right!

I believe Dr. Pratipal's quote was either taken out of the context or he's not qualified enough to be the Professor Emeritus to generalise like that. I am more inclined towards the former.
Whilst, to say that Muslims will only live as an oppresive majority perhaps is agreeable (there are afterall Muslims majority countries which are quite bend in having their own ways, and expect the non-Muslims to adhere to those), there are others that are secular, for example, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
Malaysia is a secular country with more than 60% Muslim populations and believe it or not, the top ten richest people in the country are Chinese and Indian (non-Muslim). Malaysia is also the only country outside China (including Hong Kong and Macau) and Taiwan, to have a completely Chinese-medium education system. There are roughly 1,300 Chinese public primary schools (national-type schools) in Malaysia that are all partially government funded. The same with Tamil-medium education system.
Meanwhile, you see the Muslims as "turbulent" minority in most Western world and non-Muslim countries. I don't think they want to "invade" these countries and make them Muslim, my guess is they just want to have the right to voice, they are legally there, paying tax and contributing to these countries, to be treated equally, may be not more, but just equal, you know.

I think that statement is a broad generalization of the followers of Islam. If it's based on recent events, then basically, we are looking at 2 sects of Islam only (Shi'ites and the Sunnis). That statement is equivalent of saying that Christians are either child molesters or doctor killers (catholic priests or right wing abortion clinic bombers). It's too broad a stroke and a rash stereotype that will inflame those who are not of a faith to strike out against what they do not know and it puts those of a faith into a position of defense and fear.

Absolutely true. If they are in power, they are as the Taliban were in Afghanistan - brutal towards women and other who don't prescribe to their flavor of Islam.
When they are not in power, they spend their time bemoaning that fact, to the point of violence.
They really are a scourge.

I think the good professor should not drink while teaching a class. Someday, one of his opinions will get him in trouble.
