He was angry and had self pity a dangerous combination and blaming others for your own faults only leads to more anger

He was arrogant towards being taught the proper ways of the force thought he knew more than his masters fine the force was stronger but he lacked the maturity to handle it

He thought he was better than anyone and that is why he was able to be turned and kill younglings so fast

it depends on how you look at it. remember when they always said that fear can lead to the dark side. Well because of those dreams he had of pademae in childbirth dying he started to get scared and freaked out the same with his mom. fear is what made him angry and then the anger turned in to him being evil. he was sad too but it all started as fear of loosing people

I'd say sad..although he did those things out of anger...but I cried..lol...when Anakin killed Padme...and when the two fought...and basicly from the point where he started turning evil..so pretty much half the movie..more..lol...yeah..sad...thanks for asking this question...not that many people ask questions about star wars anymore...

That seems to be a fair assessment of the plot & characters.

It seems that the Emperor was less menacing in the Third Episode than he was in Episodes V & VI. But he was younger then, supposedly.
