My brother went away to summer school down south and I'm using his room for a couple of weeks. Today I noticed many ants crawling around and it was from a lemonade can that fell. First of all I didn't even know ants can even crawl to the 2nd floor. Anywyas I threw the can away but there are still many ants crawling around the curtains and window. What can I do to get rid of them or should I wait until my brother come home (beginning of August) & deal with it.

As I've explained in an article I wrote for my website "How to Get Rid of Things," your current ant problem is more than likely a pavement ant, sugar ant, or domestic ant issue (these are all names to describe the same type of ant, a very small, brown ant that tends to stray far from their homes in search of sugary yum yums, like soda!) There are a number of things you should do to make certain that the ants never come back.

1. Clean the room, entirely, making sure you get all pieces of food, crumbs, and other edible substances cleaned up.
2. Wash all surfaces with bleach; that is, all surfaces that food has come into contact with.
3. A more natural option to #2 would be vinegar, it works the same as bleach by dissolving the scents (pheromones) that ants use to navigate, and the natural odor also works to disrupt their sense of smell (ie. they tend to avoid areas washed with vinegar or bleach).
4. Make sure all window screens, window panes, and doors (any entrance, really) are fighting tightly and properly sealed. If not, you can use a barrier treatment as a repellent to stop ants from coming in.

I think if you complete these tasks, you should have an ant-free room. Good luck.
