My boyfriend would rather watch baseball or football then anything else. He watches it night and day. It's gotten so bad that we have to plan vacations around the Reds or the buckeyes. Why? What does it matter whether your watching the game or not? The outcome of the game will be the same regardless. Plus its going to play on ESPN like 100 times.

Just to address the Brainwashed theory, I didn't care to watch football or baseball, until I was in college and living away from my father. Our heros are sports figures. What guy wouldnt' want to be a Brett Favre, or Joe montana, or Jerry Rice, or Mickey mantle? Its the same reason we play those games when we're kids. We want to be like our heros...by the time we're adults, we're too old to pursue a career or realize we're not good enough to be a professional in sports. but we can still dream. And for the record, the game may show later on ESPN, but We can't wait to rag our friends who are rooting for the other team, or be prepared to get ragged.

Because if it were not for sports we would probably die because its not the outcome it is the money or the bets that we have on the game and if we watch the game the first time then we know if we won or lost and if we lost then we have to figure out a way to tell our girlfriends that we just lost a 100 dollars or figure out how to keep it a secret to were we don't get screamed or yelled at

would you feel differently if it were another thing taking up his time? if he was into music and had a band and was working on that a lot i doubt you would care as much. Sports are just a part of life for many people, it's what we enjoy. I love the intensity, the rush i get when my team wins, the anticipation of what's to come, the startegy, the heartbreaking moments when you fall short after working so hard...it's more than just a game, and many women are too blind to see that...why don't you try watching the games with him, and you'll see that it's not as bad as you think.

3 reasons why us guys are obsessed with sports:

1. It is a distraction from the grind of our everyday lives.

2. It allows us to live vicariously through those athletes and dream of what could have been.

3. Good exuse to drink beer before noon on a sunday.

This has nothing to do with being a man. It is just a favourite past time that's all. It is just like the craze girls have on pop stars. You do not need to do this to be a man. People also like sports not neccessarily because it is sports. It can also be related to gambling. There are people who like sports to place bets. So I guess you just have to watch your bf on this.

I hate sports. Only sport I really like is wrestling. But you should know when to stop watching. Your boyfriend needs to get his priorities straight. Spend time with his girlfriend, or watch some football or baseball games that really has no influence on his life.

The whole competition thing goes back into nature with the Alpha Male in each group. We just like to prove our dominance or watch others prove theirs. On behalf of all men, I'm sorry...it's just what we do.

I know you said "men only", but my husband does the same thing. It is linked to his childhood. His father basicly brainwashed him with sports, sports, sports until it became an addiction. He also uses it as an escape from regular life.
