Garlic! mmmm... 50 acres of garlic would be incredible....plus it's really low maintenence and always a good seller :) you might want to do more than one kind of vegetable so you can do crop rotation and have happier plants.

I am surprised there aren't any smarta** comments so far.
You need to check with the government agency that tracks those sorts of things. In the states that would be a county agriculture agent (or some other similiar title). Different crops are going to have different requirements both in cost and processing. I don't know how someone without a farm background would just "pickup" and begin growing a crop and expect to make an immediate income. Except maybe for some illegal activities. Those would probably be difficult to grow in Ontario. You would pobably be better off building a mini storage like everyone else.

1) use it as farm land. Try organic farming since is in vogue now a days. 2) rest the land for special events. I.e. make a park that can be rented by corporations and the likes. 3) you can divide the land into smaller parcels and sell it for real estate. You may want to wait until the prices go back up, 4) Similar to #3 but instead of selling rent part of the land for different use. How about storage? 5) use to to put windmills or other alternative energy generation device. Then sell the electicity produce back to the power company

Deer, Elk, Pheasant... down here in Texas, hunting land is far more valuable than farm or ranch land.
Or... subdivisions... ranch-ettes as they're called. Get away from the city etc. Mayb put in an airstrip so the doctors and lawyers can fly in to their weekend places.

I'd board horses and rent them out to ride on the land. Much more fun than watching corn grow, don't you think?
Much Love!!

I would grow lots and lots of mud. Then I would throw the next outdoor woodstock concert. I would be sure to invite the Patriot Cheerleaders.
