First of all, about those that tell you that you've been had, "never look a gifted horse in the mouth'. It's a gift but it might have teeth missing and that's why they wanted to get rid of it. But teeth, who cares, I'll get him to a dentist.

As an 40 plus years of experience with auto mechanics, electro-mechanics, brakes, starters, etc. etc., I will try to brief you into what happens when a car, new, barely used, used a lot, and a relic gets the shakes.

The problem can be repaired no matter which of these ills your car has. However, the financial end of it might get unconfortable for your pocket at first, then it will turn into a blessing.

1. A shaky (new or used) car might have a problem with shavings left inside any place after boring the cilinders.

2. A shaky (older car) might have a lot of sud accumulated around the cilinders or valves from too much cheap gas or oil and a lot of cheap tune-ups.

3. A shaky car could have bad, dirty or sticky valves or worn and crooked rods. Or the seats may need replacing.

4. A shaky car could be in need of major tune up which involves; spark plugs, sp cables, distributor cap, ignition, change of oil and so on.

Naturally, you start doing the cheaper maintenance first and work up to the most expensive parts. But you have a relic in your hands, that no matter what money you spend on it, it is an investment. After you fix it, you will see many come to you to pay you 50 times what you have put in it. Don't be a fool. After you fix it, have it appraised by a dealer of the make of the car.

Hope I have been of some help! ... Lou

It sounds like the guy might have known that something might be wrong with the car,,the way you asked the question,,also remember you are dealing with a 20 year old car,,but no a starter wont make one run rough,,it only starts the car,,after it is running the starter does nothing,do your self a favor and have it checked out really good,,or have friend look at it for you that knows a lot about cars,,you got it cheap enough,,so it probably wont be anything real serious but it would be a good idea to at least have it checked out,,just to make sure it is real safe to drive,,after all it was free,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

No. Starter only starts the car. It does nothing once the car is running. If it runs rough, it may be worn out, need a serious tuneup or have a vacuum leak, but not a starter problem.

First off the rough running has always been a problem with the CamEro.... Now if it were a CamAro, you would not have a problem..

What are you doing buying a car that you don't even know how to spell the name of?

i dont beleave the starter should effect the car riding rough only starting the car since after that the distributer is what causes the car to fire and run. did u already install a new starter? is it still riding rough? if so id recomend a tune up (new dist cap, plugs, oil, filters, coolant, etc) best of luck to you

UHHHH-NO The ONLY thing that a starter does is START your car. I think you've been had. If it's running rough and using a lot of gas, replace the spark plugs and wires. DON"T BELIEVE WHAT EVERYONE SAYS ON EBAY--99% of the time they just want to get rid of something and will say anything to do it.

it souldnt run or ride rough if it has a bad or good strater for that matter. The starter has nothing to do with how it rides slash runs. If it is running/riding rough, it is some other problem with the car.

the starter will cause it to start rough but not a constant rough run.Rough running is caused by an internal problem.

problem is you have a 20 year old car
the starter has little to do after it starts the car
it runs rough because it needs more than a new starter
