I think the question you should is why you want an autograph collection?
If it's for speculative purposes i.e., to make money from them in the future, then it would be best to consider how much effort you are willing to put into this venture and what are the potential returns you can expect.
However if it's for your interests i don't see any reason why you should start right now.

Sounds like fun... over the years, you're bound to have quite a collection of people you've met. Who knows? One of those autographs may be worth a pretty penny someday.
