Warm or even hot water (not so hot that it will scald your face)...the warm water helps relax and open your spores so that they get cleaned better. I believe the toner or astringent is what makes it bounce back to normal and then you have to wear moisturizor or a quality foundation that will help protect your skin from dirt and so forth.

Just don't be like me and leave that foundation on overnight!!!! Your skin has to breath sometime! lol

EDIT: Ok, don't use hot water...use warm. This article says use tepid water.

After a long day the best is cool water first. But when using a face pack, to wash it always use warm water.

Wash your face gently with an appropriate soap/cleanser with warm (not hot) water. Then rinse with cold water. Gently tap dry with a towel. The warm water opens pores and cleans skin. The cold water closes the pores once clean.

First you use warm water to open the pores then use the facial wash cleanser then wash it again with cold water to close the pores. If you go to a derma or a salon they first steam your face, right? It is to open the pores and it would be easy for them to remove the blackheads and for the skin to absorb the medication for blemishes. The last is the cold cream to tighten the pores. So it's warm to cold.

I everyday use cool ware(tap ware) to wash my face. I heard that using warm water will open up your facial pores and if u leave after warm water, dust and bacteria will get in the pores easily. Even if u wash using cool water after warm water, the bacteria in the water may get in the pores..
So it is better to use cool water

You could wash your face with warm water to open pores to clean them, then rinse with cool water to close them back up.

I start off with really warm water, and finish off with two splashes of cold.

Because it feels the most refreshing to me. Perhaps also, it closes/tightens up the pores as well.

But that's what toner is for. However, I'm not going to pay more money for some more chemical on my face.

warm water! because it makes your face smoother. After wash your face with warm water (it will open your pores), then you use your cleanser and don't forget to wash it with cool water (to close your pores) after it. Just try and touch your face!

You should use a temperature that won't shock your skin.
Warm Water would be best, especially in the morning, as it will cleanse the skin and open your pores. (So they can breathe!)
Avoid using Exfoliants with chemicals as they will dry and irritate your skin. Instead, use a mild soap, preferably something natural, or just warm water.
