Is it me, or is the greenhouse affect nearing the point of no return and no one seems concerned. Or is it possible that the greenhouse affect is just another network sponsored news event?

YESSSS - they are NOT paying attention!! I'm sure that you've seen An Inconvenient Truth. Gore stated that he was amazed that his colleagues didn't jump up and tackle it as soon as the pattern became clear. Humans are so gol-durned apathetic and myopic. And corporate greed will never favor environmental conservation.
I loved this quote from the movie:

As long as government hacks are rewarded for editing scientific reports, we're in whomping big trouble.

Maybe that's part of the problem. All I know is that you and I had better get ourselves in gear and do something about this. I'm guessing by your nickname PlacerVillain, that you are a Californian like me. In An Inconvenient Truth, Gore talked about how 2005 broke high temperature records. Well here in California they are shattering all over again. My swamp cooler went on overdrive these past few weeks.
OK, there could be other explanations, but do you want to gamble on this? It's time to get serious. We do not have time for inertia. Our grandchildren depend on it.

Haven't you noticed when Gore got us wrapped up and totally concerned about our world...the President, nor the Vice President nor Gore has made any attempts to start with us the people, the government for each state, nothing has been demanded of us on how, what to do as a unity to save our lives from devastation in 9 years regarding Global Warning. Why bring all this up then surface into the wood work and never come forth with a plan now to work on faithfully. for the next 9 years. Mr President, Mr. Vice President and Mr. Al Gore hear me and start us working on this now before it is too late.
I believe we are in big trouble if the government doesn't start working on it now.

I know that I am not falling for the Al Gore's of this world and their scenarios. The earth has gone through similar cycles for ages. Even now, they found that the hurricane calculations which were done over the last 30 or 40 years may have understated the force of each, thereby refuting what happened last year as "the worst hurricane year ever".
