Am I the only person in the universe who'd like to b*tch slap these people? I mean, every day I'm confronted with these images of those poor, underprivalged kids in foreign countries, and all I can think of is how much I want to slap the deacon showing me.
I mean, it is sad, and there is something to be done, but all I can think of is the little girl down the street from me who has nothing but a dead-drunk mother and an empty stomach, a little girl *I* take care of most of the time, and then they want me to adopt nineteen little famine children as well.
The local church generates enough money to support these kids a few times over, and they send missionaries over to experience the 'horror' firsthand, and they accept donations, but only about a fifth of the money actually makes it over...does this make any sense?
I tell the churches to stop buying all those huge crucifuxes and start feeding those kids, implement sex ed. classes...
Nothing.
Anyone else feel this way?

I don't think you're horrible. I feel the same way. While it's sad there are so many children in other countries who are starving or dying with AIDS or what have you, that doesn't concern me. I have my own family and my own problems to contend with, and we should stick to helping our own. It's really unfortunate these things are happening all over the world, but it doesn't affect me if 12,000 children die in Ethiopia every day. Instead of their governments asking for a handout from richer, civilized countries, maybe they should be implementing a birth control/education program.

I agree with you, I don't like those commercials. I wonder how much HE actually donates, he probably goes back to a luxery hotel far away from where the commercial is filmed and takes a steeming hot shower afterwards.
They need to start helping at home, and not just when natural disasters hit. You should see all the "do gooders" that come out of hiding after a hurricane, and then when everything starts getting back to normal, they disappear, people are still needing help, but they came, they made an appearance, and now they are gone back into hiding.

If you take care of one thing at a time then you should feel good. I imagine the little girl you already take care of is thankful. Be compassionate to a level where you are comfortable. You probably do more than most other people ever do. Don't wear yourself out thinking about ALL of the World's problems. Sh*t happens. We all need to accept that.
In order to take care of others you must take care of YOURSELF first.

These people can't help their, poverty, and starvation. They can't help not getting the help they need. I don't think they want You to adopt nineteen little children, but anyone who is able and willing to. You're doing your part by helping someone in need. At least somebody's getting help! Take care.

I think we should help people in our country first. Of course, tho, aid should be sent in cases of a natural disaster.
