A database should be stored on a hard drive or solid state(RAM not flash) drive. Most other storage methods will be too slow, read-only, or will be too hard on the drive(such as a flash drive).

For backing up a database, you can replicate the database to another machine, but also use something like burning it to a CD if its for yourself. if this is for a company, use a tape backup system using a grandfather, father, child tape rotation.

A hard drive or a tabpe library. Tape libaries are huge storage devices that mostly is used by big companies to store data for a long time. Hard drives can be used to store information for personal use or for businesses. Hard drives take up less space than tapes.

Also when using any storage device to store important information its is wise to some sort of back up device. Bacp up of the back up sort of. This is done in case the primamry hard drive or tape breaks.

The way to do it with using RAID software. There are different levels of it. The higher the level the better the back up. There is aso hard ware that will help you with that. Also program SpinRight I heard works very well.

A large database can be stored to a DVD-DL disc. The media is expensive, but it can hold 8.5GB of info!
