For those in the African American race category?

would it piss you off if your not from Africa? Like if you were Jamacian.

Not that the part of being African is bad, just that people would catagorize you as African when you are not.

Read a book poor child, the ancestors of blacks in the carribean island came off of the same boat as ours did.

And if being from the African continent makes you African American then you are also as every single human on earth has ancestry leading back to Africa.

btw I am Black, as one person pointed out earlier a white skinned person from Africa who now resides here would also be African American.

The unfortunate thing is that all people of African descent are categorized as African. Most people don't listen for the difference in the accent or even ask a simple question like"what country do you come from" people are just looking at the skin color and even though you are not from Africa, people know (especially if you have an accent)that you were not raised in the United states.

Why get pissed if people can't distinquish you as being from jamaica or African? Just consider that people are ignorant and don't know any better.

I am African. BUT not American. The term African, in my opinion refers to a native of Africa. Like me, even though I am as white as snow.

The term "African" refers to people of the African diaspora. Therefore, the term "African" describes people of afro origins in the Caribbean, America, Europe, etc.
