Depending on what is done, you should be back to your "old self" by about 10-12 days or so. Of course, if you have extensive removal done, such as on the bowel or bladder, you will need longer. Having an actual bowel resection as part of the Endo removal lap will take about 3 weeks to feel "normal" again. Typically speaking, however, the first few days are the roughest and then and the next several days find you doing better each day. What is equally important is HOW the Endo will be treated during the lap. Will it be superficially laser ablated, vaporizated, fulgurated or cauterized? If so, you may want to visit www.centerforendo.com and find out why excision is the preferred method with the longest relief rates. I also suggest downloading this free publication from the Endo Research Center; you need to be a member to get it, but membership is free, too:

Go to http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erc/files/ and then click the LapManual.pdf document

It really gives a lot of info on the lap itself, how to deal w/your doc, about Endo, post-surgical coping and healing tips, etc. etc.

Good luck!

Diagnostic Laparoscopy Recovery Time

2016-12-29 03:54:49 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Laparoscopy is performed under general anesthesia in a surgical center. A small needle is inserted into the abdominal cavity and CO2 gas is introduced. The laparoscope (a telescope with a strong light and camera) is introduced through the navel. A variety of instruments can be inserted into the pelvis, through other small incisions, to perform diagnostic and corrective surgery As part of the surgical evaluation, the following are examined:

a. Evaluation of the tubes and ovaries.
b. Exclusion of endometriosis, both overt and subtle.
c. Identification of adhesions.
d. Inspection of the uterus and the exclusion of fibroids.
e. Inspection of the appendix, intestine, gall bladder, liver, and upper abdominal cavity.

Recovery time depends on the kind of procedure, the patient's age, and health before the procedure. The following is a normal timetable for recovery from minimally invasive surgery on the abdomen:

The groggy feeling from the anesthetic disappears the day after surgery and the individual is fully alert once again.

Any pain in the shoulders or neck area usually goes away after a few days.

Soreness in the incisions disappears within a few days and the incisions heal after about five days.

The bloated feeling after abdominal or pelvic laparoscopy goes away within a few days.

Taking care of yourself at home
Be guided by your doctor but general suggestions include:

* Most patients are able to resume normal activities within a few days to one week.
* Don't engage in any strenuous physical activity for about a week or so.
* Remove your bandages the following day. Keep wounds dry.
* Following a pelvic laparoscopy, use sanitary napkins instead of tampons to cope with any vaginal bleeding or discharge.
* If you experience high fever, chills, vomiting, difficulties urinating, increasing redness at the incision site or a worsening of pain, contact your doctor immediately.

How long is the recovery time for most laparoscopic procedures?

Most people are able to go home the same day that they have a laparoscopic procedure. They must avoid strenuous activity for two to seven days. It is normal for the patient to have some pain at the puncture site. The pain should resolve within a day or two. A mild pain reliever, such as Tylenol, is helpful.

It depends on the type of job you, honestly. Its not horribly painful, tender pain really but it heals up rather quickly. I felt pretty decent after about the 4th day but I would say it depends on your pain tolerence and recovery ability. Some people heal better than others.

No lifting for a few days and keep moving!! Don't go out and run a marathon lol but make sure you walk and move. Won't wanna but its for the best.

Most women can resume work after just 3 or 4 days. If your job is more physical it can be longer. Talk to your doc, he can help you sort it out.

Good luck and good thoughts are with you :D

I have had two laparoscopic surgeries. Dont believe all the information you get online. With my first surgery (gallbladder removal) I was told it would be 2 days recovery. I was still bedridden 2 weeks later, and I have some red nasty looking scars. With my second surgery (uterine uplift) I was out of bed 3 days later, feeling great, and have barely visible scars. It all depends on your doctor (ask how many surgeries have been performed and what scars you can expect) and your own skin elasticity (drink lots of water a couple weeks beforehand to help your skin recover). Hope this helps without overloading you on information. Good Luck on your surgery.
