My sister-in-law recently rented a Cobalt and she loved it. The gas mileage was good, the only complaint she had was that it didn't have power windows or door locks. Other than that, she was very satisfied.

Bad, because it doesn't have power ANYTHING (windows, locks, etc.) and it is small in the inside (can barely fit 5 adults comfortably). Also, my friends who rented it couldn't find out how to tell whether or not they were low on gas. Overall, they didn't like their rental experience with it. Upgrade, if you can. Many car rental places, particularly now, will allow you to upgrade for free. However, the gas mileage is okay on it.'
Also, according to Wikipedia:
Althogh the Cobalt is considered light years ahead of the Cavalier, it is still under heavy fire because of numb electric steering and relatively boring interior design. Another major complaint was the relatively high body roll. However it is still rated higher than it's cousin car, the Saturn Ion Quad Coupe.

Dude, I'm gonna be honest she sounds like trash. If you like your car thats all that matters. I personally do not think a Cobalt is a girly car, especially the SS model. While it's no Mustang GT or Z28 Camaro, it's cool in its own way.

Cobalts are nice. I bought one for my kid. He commutes all over LA in it. The SS model probably doesn't get the best mileage though.
