Electric strings are usually a core string of steel, nickle, or a steel/nickle mix. That core is then followed by a thin string tightly wrapped around the core of steel, nickle, or again, a steel/nickle mix. This is done because it's much more magnetic, so you have a better response from your pickups. Acoustic strings are again, a core of steel, nickle, or a steel/nickle mix wrapped by bronze. Phospher bronze, which is mix of copper and bronze, more copper. This results in a brighter tone. There's also 80/20 bronze, which is 80% bronze and 20% copper, which is a more mellow tone. The 80/20 look gold, while phospher looks copper. Nylon strings for the treble strings are just single strands of nylon, while the bass strings are many thin (thinner than a strand of hair) strands of nylone wrapped in a thin strand of nickle. Then there's the many different variants. Coated strings, heat treated, cryo treated, pressed, stretched and so on and so forth. Hope this helps. Oh, and the reason your acoustic strings are "hard" is because acoustics usually come in thicker guages for increased volume. I suggest trying a set of extra-light guage strings. It'll give the guitar more of an "electric" feel.

well it some acoustic guitars have nylon strings and some have steel strings. electric guitars have steel strings but they aren't as thick as the acoustic ones. well thats what its like with my guitar anyways, i'm not sure if yours is the same but yeah. and damn you're so lucky! i've always wanted an acoustic with a pick-up. those are fun : )

You can put electric strings on a acoustic but there more likely to brake you should use light gage strings and just get used to it hurting and then one day it wont hurt any more
