before you have a period that is when the egg is dropping down the fillopian tube and has to be fertilizated before you can become pregnant, if you start taking your tempertature at the end of your cycle every morning before you get out of bed, and you keep a chart, you will see that your temp will be below normal (98.6) something like 97.6 even lower sometimes, you will see your tempertature start to rise and each day it will go a little higher, for at least 5 dys or less, it will take a deep plunge and then that is when you are starting to ovulate, you are only fertile maybe 3 or 4 days out of the month, when your temp is the highest you wil see another plunge again and then you are done being fertile, expect an egg can still stay fertile laying there for up to 72 hours which means you can become pregnant in that time. If you draw you a graff and start keeping it you will see the rise and deep plunge in your tempertature. BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT BEFORE YOU GET OUT OF BED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.it is what the doctor's call the rhythem system which I was on for 6 years and then I quit taking my temperature and guess what SURPRIZE pregnant again. OOPS GOOD LUCK HOPE i HAVE HELPED YOU SOME

Your cycle has to be tracked daily so you can see the patterns over a period of months. If you already know that you have very regular cycles then chances are you probably ovulate somewhere between Days 12 and 16, but those are only averages. And it's more about being in a "fertile time" then about "ovulating" since a woman can get pregnant both before and after ovulation occurs. Since sperm can survive in your body days after intercourse, you could possibly have sex 7 days before you ovulate and get pregnant.

A woman's fertility is so much more complex than just "14 days after your period or 14 days before the next." If you'd like more info about tracking your fertility and also need more tips on maximizing your chances of becoming pregnant, check into the Couple to Couple League. They are great and sell lots of good books, supplies, etc. www.ccli.org

The book on all this is called The Art of Natural Family Planning (bet you could find it real cheap on Ebay!). My husband and I have used the method with 100% effectiveness for three years now. It can help you conceive, or space the next child if you have good reasons for doing so.

You ovulate 12-16 days BEFORE your period starts, so if you have a "normal" 28-day cycle, you ovulate anywhere from cycle day 12-16. You should get what's called egg-white cervical mucus (discharge that looks like egg-white) when you're at your most fertile. It typically lasts anywhere from one to five days. At the start of your fertile period, you'll get discharge that is creamy, milky, or lotion-like, and this will last anywhere from 2-4 days. You can get an ovulation predictor kit, which is used like a pregnancy test, but is testing for a LH surge instead of the pregnancy hormone. It will indicate when you're ovulating.

the 'norm' is to have it at the 1/2 way point between your periods, but each woman is different and there are cases of ovulation occurring DURING the menstrual cycle. These women almost never get pregnant.
however there are ways to modify this through hormonal treatments.
ONe study showed that a womans cycle is affected by the men she lives with. a certain amount of women, each living alone, and each having different times of their respective cycles, were exposed daily, to the sweat of one certain man.
within a short period of (2-3 months) ALL the women werre having periods at the same time!
Exercise can also affect the timing of periods and possible when during the cycle a woman ovulates, if at all

If you have a regular 28 day period, you should be ovulating right in the middle of your cycle, around about day 14, but if you have irregular cycles ovulation is unpredictable.

If you have regular cycles, your ovulation is usually 14 days before the first day of your next menses. This obviously cannot be calculated with 100% accuracy every time because nobody knows exactly when is the next menses.

although each person is different, it's about halfway inbetween your periods. (so 14 days) some people get minor cramps during it. anyhow, talk to your doctor about a fertility test, it will map out your cycle for you.
