Magne-Traction is a construction technique designed to give you more edge hold. If you look at the sidecut of a magne-traction board it appears "wavey." These teeth allow for better bite in hard snow.

Lib tech claims that:

"Magne-Traction shifts control, edge hold, and power from your tip and tail to under your feet where your balance is centered."

and:

"One of the best things about Magne-Traction is that the extra edge hold you get allows you to ride your board de-tuned for the park and rails and still get great edge hold all over the mountain. Take a file and round your edges so they don’t hang up on the rails, boxes, or ledges. Then go ride everywhere."

I have not had a chance to ride a Magne-Traction board yet but I look forward to it this season. Burton has been using a similar technique for a few years that they call "pressure distribution edges" where your edge extends out a half millimeter on either side just under your bindings. Doesn't seem like much but it works really well. I can only imagine that Magne-Traction works similarly.
