By far the easiest way is books. Go to the local library and borrow some books to take home. That is what I did. HTML and CSS is easy compared to programming languages. There are a lot of websites with free tutorials however 1 or 2 good books will cover everything.

most local libraries have tons of books on html programming. If not there then at community college libraries or university libraries. For the cost of one 1000 page clunker from the bookstore you can get top quality books from academic libraries. The public libraries however are notable for being free.

As for websites check out www.htmlgoodies.com
and coffecup html used to offer good tutorials. Don't know if they do anymore. they are worth checking out though.

One last site is http://freespace.virgin.net/r.cawley/tutorials.html

hope this helps

Definately recommend http://www.w3schools.com/ They have lots of tutorials, not just for HTML but for most other web technologies too.

You can mess with all of this on your own system and just save the file locally as a .html file. You can then open it using your favorite web browser.
