1) put the cd in the disc drive and open My computer.
2) right-click on drive D (or whatever your cd drive is)
3) click explore
4) find a file with the same icon as the game, right-click it, click properties
5) click the 'compatibility' tab
6) check the 'run this program in compatibility mode' tab

As far as CD Discs are concerned, they work on any OS. No issues.
If your question is about CD-ROM Drive, then it also should work fine with XP. If it doesnt, try to get latest driver from your CD-ROM Manufacturer. If you cant the latest driver, then probably, you need to replace your CD-ROM Drive.

CD Roms are formatted for PC, not for the Windows version. Yes, it should work fine already.
