I am moving to a small town, and I have a 9 month old. I am too old to go to bars, don't go to school, don't go to church, and don't have a job there yet. What is there to do to meet new friends?

I would go to the park or playground at least once daily if you can. There is normally a lot of people that are in similar situations. Even though your child is young, the fresh air is good for him or her. You could slowly sit with the baby in a swing and swing slowly. Or another idea is to take a walk through downtown, browse the town.

Since you don't go to church, there's not going to be much you can do in a very small town. How about going for your babies sake just to meet other mothers? That's called "networking". Talk to everyone you meet and introduce yourself. Pretty soon, everyone will know who you are and then you'll feel more at home. Accept any invitations and invite new friends to your house for coffee. Just be friendly.

Well, go to church! Free babysitting at events where the childcare's open and the people are family-oriented. We found a great congregation that we love and our small group friends are all in the same life stage as us, and we babysit for each other for free. You can't beat that. Plus there's always activities going on.
