Are mentally retarded people able to have relationships and sex when they have the mind of a child? They still have an adult body and hormones. Is it automatically considered rape when a mentally normal person has relations with him/her when there is consent and sex is actually explained to him/her? Are people who are mentally retarded to some extent unable to every marry or have children and have a normal life?

No, I am not looking to screw a retard (though it can be argued I have already). I just wanted to know opinions about it. Perhaps for a novel.

I hate the word "retarded" too, angel, but it is the actual term for it.

There are quite a few mentally challenged people living in our town. I know of 3 couples that have been married, 2 of them are on the needle birth control the other one he has had a vasectomy. How I know this is I am close friends with someone that works with them and I wondered that myself. The one couple have a job where they go around and wash windows of stores. It supplement's their disability pension. And just like any other marriage they fight. I can tell when he's had a bad day with his wife, cause he will be alone and he'll tell me, I don't feel like washing windows today. So I will ask him if everything is ok, and he'll say that wife of mine, but then he'll laugh.lol Just like any other man. I say god bless them that they have found happiness.

It all depends on their health really...if they have an illness that can be passed on their child it could be a problem...and yes...there are alot of people who are mentally changnell and they go on to get married and even have kids...in fact not long ago there was a program on where a couple who were retarded ( hate that word) had 3 kids and the kids were actually of high IQ and were more less taking care of the parents... ..Yes the fact does remain that even though they have the mind of a child they have the body of an adult. Sometimes it can be mind over matter other times it is matter of mind.

My brother is mentally retarded and had a girlfriend, who was also retarded, for a while. And I know that they had sex because my mom accidentally walked in on them. He has his own apartment and mom had a key and was dropping some stuff off. As for the legalities of that and your other questions I have no clue.

It depends on the level of retardation. If they are closer to young teen or young adult, they do have relations and families. But severly retarded people, it would be considered abuse having sex with them.

It depends on the severity of the handicap. there are some people considered to be "retarded" becuase they are simply uneducated. If you are deemed by the law as unable to care for yourself then no you cannot legally make decisions like marriage and baby making.

It depends on the circumstances, and the mental age of the person....mostly it's considered to be the same as raping a child regardless of how old they may be chronologically.

Children have relationships
Sex is a physical urge so who knows what will happen.
The law is based on physical age.
