I'd rather be anorexic, because in some ways I think it'd be easier to gain weight and be normal rather than spend months and months and months and months trying to lose it, y'know?

Depends: Would you rather have a mental disorder causing you social anxiety and health problems....
...or a emotional and/or physical disorder that causes you social anxiety and health problems?
Actually both can be opposite expressions of the same problem of poor self-esteem. An emotional eater feels a void in their lives and substitues pleasure for happiness. ("I can't make my life fun, but I CAN eat this yummy cake." Which gives them pleasure for a few minutes, but afterwords they feel bad/guilty for overindulging. Which they can't control, but they CAN eat this yummy..."
(A Shop-a-holic is someone binging on shopping...substituting the pleasure of buying new things for the missing joy in their lives.)
(A nympho substitutes the pleasure of sex for the joy they feel is missing in their lives.)
Someone that exibits compulsive behavior (anorexia, bulimia, cutting) feels like they can't control events in their lives...but they feel they CAN control what happens to their bodies. They trade pleasure for control.
Cutters experience some pain they can't see/show, but by cutting/burning themselves they have a physical manifistation of the emotional pain they feel. They can see the wound. They can tend to the wound. They can control when and where it happens.
Anorexics tell themselves they have control over their lives by controling what they eat. Fat becomes the scapegoat for all areas of their lives they can't control...even when they are nothing but bones they see themselves as fat because it's their lives they can't control.
Bullimics bing eat for the pleasure, then try to purge themselves to control their bodies and the results of these binges. (Anorexics might see eating half a hamburger as binging and feel the need to purge.)
Bullies often have low self-esteem and feel the world is out of their control...so they seek to show control by controlling others.
Find joy. Learn to control yourself in a healthy way.
