Pot is a drug that, even when used in moderation, is mind-altering and does harm to the body; whereas, alcohol when used in moderation is neither.

In layman's terms, one toke off a joint does harm to your lungs and makes you high while one beer does no harm and has no effect.

I see this question a lot and most of the time when ppl understand what is behind the logic, they agree.

Too tell you the truth i am not sure either. I mean they are making pot illegal but what they don't understand is pot is not as dangerous at crystal meth, ice, speed whatever. You can't overdose on pot, i mean yeah it has side effects, but they are way less harmfull then some of the other drugs. I'd rather everyone smoke pot then go to a party, and pop some e's. Where i live they do a lot of busts on pot, but i know that there are people who shoot up and the police aren't really doing much to stop it. what is this world coming to???

J. Edgar Hoover needed funding for the newly established law enforcement agency, the FBI. So he whipped up a "reefer scare." The politicians fell for it, made pot illegal, and Hoover got a big budget for the fledgling FBI.

It's interesting to remember that at one time, there was a constitutioinal amendment prohibiting the manufacture and consumption of alcohol. Finally, the nucklehead politicians found out it was not enforceable, and so the amendment was rescinded.

Pot probably continues to remain illegal despite its popularity because law enforcement officials are in on the take.

I have known many people who have used alcohol and/or pot.

I have never seen anybody's life ruined from pot.

I have seen many people's lives ruined from alcohol: death from car accidents, suicide, violent behavior...etc.

I have lost some good friends due to alcohol.

The people that smoked pot are still around and mostly doing fine.

Because Congress is made up of alcoholics, not pot heads.

If they were all pot heads, nothing would get done.

.....on second thought, maybe they are....

At one time it was the other way around. People voted and made their choice. Of course, pot was also popular in Opium Dens, so maybe it just was Guilt by Association when they got rid of those places.

Alcohol can readily be made from any grain, and is therefore impossible to curb illegal production. Marajuana requires the plant cannibis sativa which has no legitimite other purposes.
