The Vatican is a nation with diplomatic rights, but does it have birth rights like the US?

It would be a citizen of Vatican City. But, more than likely, I would be a citizen of Rome/Italy. I don't know about the birth rights. I didn't even know if any one has been born in the Vatican. Then again, there's a lot I don't know. Maybe, if it hasn't happened yet, then there might be an exception to the rule or something.

it would be italian. only the pope, the members of the college of cardinals, the clergies, the swiss guards and other people working inside the vatican see are given the vatican citizenship. according to the laterian treaty: in the event a Vatican citizen has their other nationality revoked, they will be automatically granted Italian citizenship. it would be possible that a natural born vatican citizen would be stripped his citizenship in exchange of being a citizen of italy.

European countries do not grant citizenship merely because one is born within their borders. Presumably the Holy See has a similar law. The child's citizenship would derive from its parents'.
