Yes, I learned something good about someone that made me (finally) admire and respect them, when I did not really have the best opinion of them.

(I have to say that I at first I was neutral, not a dislike but no like waiting in the wings to take over either, and then found out how much my future mother-in-law disliked A LOT of things and talked so badly and bitterly about her ex, mainly, yet used him every chance she could for the money, that I could not stand her, then I began to finally admire her when I tried to understand her childhood and how she thinks and then also because of all she's been through, it's made her a tough but strong person.)

And I have learned something really bad about someone that made me wish I'd never crossed paths with them.

(I felt so sorry for this lady who had a man who did not treat her with respect and was kind of odd in the way he acted around others, but then I wished I'd never met her when I realized he was bad news: a man who was on anti-psychotics but only used them with heavy booze, beat the crap out of her over their long relationship of many, many years, which began when he was underage and she was old enough to know better, 6 years older, and that he, father of her 3 kids, was a product of 2 first-cousins who had an incestuous relationship, and had so many issues because of it.)
