You are under no moral obligation to put your grandchild through college whatsover. If there was any moral obligation it would fall on the parents, but each person is responsible for their own future and not even they are truly morally obligated, it is up to your grandson to pursue whatever training he needs to get the skillset for the types of jobs that he wants.

Best thing you can do is encourage him to think about what he likes to do, what he does well, and especially what types of jobs that are in high demand and pay a decent wage, does he think he would be interested in doing in order to support himself.

From what you have said, he may not even want to go to a four year college. Giving him a handout for something he doesn't even want to do is a waste of money. A college degree does not guarantee a good job; there are a lot of people with Bachelor's and Master's degrees waiting on tables because they can't find a job in their chosen field.

I don't know if the grandchild is still in high school, but if so, many offer vocational skills classes which will transfer over to accredited vocational school and they could continue their education in one of those programs. LPNs and automotive mechanics that require only 1-2 years of school pay as well, if not better, teaching positions or most office jobs.
