I'm going to New York soon. What should I wear to avoid looking like a tourist? Serious, helpful answers please. I'm leaving in a few days.

Don't wear shorts and a tee-shirt or any kind of athletic footwear.A tailored look is always good.Dressier jeans and a fitted blouse, worn with pretty flats is one option.Dressier light-weight wool trousers and a tailored blouse,a summery dress are other options.Carry a real handbag and not a backpack.New York,as well as San Francisco, are pretty formal towns among the fashionable people,so do not do casual,do not do flashy, but do try for classy, tailored styles.

I think the most important thing isn't what you wear, it's what are carrying..........like a camera and camera bag. You WILL be a tourist, but in a city of 8 million, nobody will notice if you aren't snapping away in Times Square. But do you really want to sacrifice pictures of your trip just to look like you belong there? Why even worry about it? As for specific clothing style, again there are enough people there that no matter what you wear, you will fit in somewhere. Dress for what you will be doing while there. Shopping, museums, ball games, dining, etc...
Don't try to buy a whole new wardrobe just to fit in with people you will never see again.

Like, flashy casual I guess. Don't overdress.
