if the car already has paint then you don't need primer just sand the entire clear coat with 600-300 grit sand paper you made need to hose the car a few times so you can see shinny spots on the car one the clear is sanded fix your repairs spot primer your repairs then re-sand the spots with 600-300 grit sand paper once thats done the fun part begins the tape and the paper masking off the car or you can remove whats not to be painted witch ever before that wash the car really good and try to touch the car as little as possiable when masking off the car once done your ready for paint with black you dont really need a clear coat cause its shinny if you get the gloss black most places have a rental place where you can rent paint spayers for about 50-100 a day you dont need a spray gun and the compressier and the the good stuff just rent a paint srayer like the ones they use to paint a house or a wagner power sprayer and a cheap paint job is not a cheap paint job its olny cheap if you dont know what your doing but going the cheap way you may need a few extra steps and some extra time

If you buy an actual automotive (cheap) this would cost about 3-400 bucks including primer, base coat and the clear coat. Painting the door jambs with a rattle can would be a waste if you are going to tape up everything anyway just go ahead and shoot it with the spraygun while your at it. Or you could just get a single stage paint if you dont have any experiance painting its much easier.

Do you want your car to look real good, or do you just want to have it painted? Do you plan on buying automotive paint and spray gun? Painting a car is quite harder to do than painting a room in a house. As far as the door jambs go, you can paint them with spray paint, and spray clear. Make sure it's not the cheap stuff though, because it will just chip away every time you close the door.

me and a friend painted his car out sied 1 time with spray cans and it looked bad (and i have painted for a living i no what i m doing) but he did not care how good it was just so it was red i guessing this is also true with you never paint any thing out side that you want to look good you would prob go throuth 15 - 20 cans (wind is realy big prob) at 7 -8 $ a can so 150-200 $ if i were you i would save up and get like a cheap shop 2 do it (300-500) it will be a god job and not realy more than double what you will pay just in paint alone

do you have a aircompressor and a gravity feed spay gun, if not then you are going to go through quite a few cases of spray paint you can paint your car if you have the right equipment for a couple hundred bucks but remember this a good paint job aint cheap and a cheap paint job aint good

less than getting it done professionally i suppose..

but..i`d let the experts do it, unless you`ve had previous experiance.
