I don't believe in much of science. I think some people may find it easier to be gay, some are conditioned into it, but people can still reject homosexuality.

I don't think there's such a thing as gay. It's just that people started to think about thing..like "what if I did this or that" when they're not supposed to. I think people wanted to experience new things..try it out and see how it's like. But some got so into it that they created a third gender and so came up with the word "Gay".

That's funny. They find it "easier" to be gay? They can't get married, they can't be on their partner's benefits, they are still ridiculed by all the closed minded, conservative biggots. Conditioned in to it like Pavlov's Dog? What? Science has proven that there is a part of the brain that deals with testosterone in males. Autopsies on donated cadavers have shown that this part of the brain is smaller on a homosexual body than a heterosexual body. Why would someone choose to live a life that goes against the grain and that people have actually been killed over? There are some women and good lord, someone messed up up there and decided woman when she clearly should have been marked as a man! And, more importantly, how does this even effect YOUR life?

No one knows why people are gay.

Gays will tell you they were born that way. Perhaps.

The religious right will tell you it's a full-out choice, and gays chose to have sex with people of their own sex just to be contrary.

I suspect they're both completely and totally wrong.

Since numerous studies have shown that there are obvious correlations between certain things and homosexuality, it's obviously silly to rule out nature entirely.

And since one would obviously have to be marginally psychopathic to choose to be stigmatized by society and be considered a citizen of a lesser class, the religious right's claim that gays choose their orientation is also quite transparently stupid.

Some studies also suggest that there are environmental factors that play into sexual orientation. Having an absent father or dominant mother are common environmental factors cited. None of these studies can explain 100% of cases.

In fact, neither nurture, nature, nor choice explains 100% of cases. What's left? Nothing, really.

To refute the "nature" argument... A study of identical twins found that if one twin was gay, the other had a 52% chance of being gay. This simultaneously proves that there is -something- to the argument of genetics and disproves that genetics is the -only- factor.

It's a complex interplay of biological predispositions (ie, someone born with specific genetic traits may be -more likely- to be gay), nurture, and choice.

No, I didn't choose to find other guys physically attractive. I don't know if it was genetic or my upbringing. I imagine that there are some elements of both (particularly genetic, considering that my parents got divorced a couple of years ago and my father recently introduced me to his boyfriend) that play into my orientation. The biggest way that choice factors in is that I didn't choose to fight those desires. They may not be the typical state of affairs (I think it's fairly obvious that there will always be more heterosexuals than homosexuals), but neither do I think that an un-normal state of affairs is necessarily wrong.

Some people are born left-handed. It's not normal, it makes their lives somewhat inconvenient, and the world is certainly not built for them (consider handshakes and school-style writing desks if you need examples). Sure, a left-handed person can choose to practice until they can use their right hand functionally—but it's still a kind of faking. But is there anything wrong with a left-handed person just choosing to accept the fact and use their left hand?

If you don't believe in science... then what the heck do you expect people to say? If you're not going to except the scientific explanation then dont' bother asking.

HOWEVER! If you're saying that the scientific explanation is not justified by the evidence, by all means. My personal belief is that homosexuality is partially conditioned and partially genetic. People can't be UNconditioned after a certain point, and if there is in fact conditioning, we don't know quite of what causes it. If there's any conditioning going on, I'd say it's in the EARLY levels of childhood.

Why do I say this? Because genetics isn't something that tends to be random. You can't inherit gayness, and it's not something heriditary, but it is supposedly something that's genetic... and that doesn't seem to work with me. Alternatively, all people are gay at some level, and certain individuals just acknowledge and embrace this to a greater extent. Hmmmm...

Something just doesn't click right in people who are gay. They can't grasp the aspect that it takes a man and a woman to create life. Humans are not going to EVOLVE so that people of the same sex can reproduce. Animals can't reproduce with the same sex neither can people. If it is too complicated for gay people to see that they are mixed up. There is no way that we as a society can change that. There are gays proclaiming to be Christian. I am not saying that you can't believe in God if you are gay. I just don't understand how they missed that when their preacher was giving the sermon that day. My preacher made it very clear and there have been no gays spawning out of the congregation. There are those of us who are true Christians...then we are supposed to just sit back with our mouths closed and let gay people get married and say it is their God given right. They are wrong but as Christians we have been taught not to stand in judgment. So that would make us all wrong in the long run. I decided a long time ago that is something that I had to hand over to God. I do not think that it is right but I don't stand in judgment of other people either. That is how I was raised and that is how I will raise my family.

White Lilly gives you something that you should consider. Science will never be able to explain spiritual matters. I believe that homosexuality like other conditions that deteriorate the normal balance of the world. Originate from the separation between the men and his Creator. There are people that constantly find them self in activities that they are sure that will render wrong for them. Alcohol, cigarettes, eating disorders, drugs, lust, violence, stealing and others. Why do men continue practicing this activities? Don't we have penitentiaries, hospital and cemeteries full of people that may be witnesses that nothing good will come out of this. Yet the amount of people that practices this activities is increasing. A package of cigarettes read that is known to cause cancer, yet people continue to smoke. My friend all this matters has its origin in the spirit, the heart the real being of men. There is only one surgeon of the spirit, Him who gave his life in loving affection to the men, yet rejected by him.

Some believe that the world is flat. As far as the "easier to be gay" comment, nothing is further from the truth. Everyday gay people are bombarded with judgment from people like you. Thousands of gay people are injured and/or killed every year from hatred. People are conditioned to be self righteous and ignorant. I can reject those people.

Because they want to be. It's a free country and nobody's business what another person's sexual orientation is.

Gays (and flag-burning, for that metter) are used by politicians to divert attention away from real issues. Look past the smokescreen to see what's really going on. Anti-gay sheep are being lined up like good little soldiers while the Constitution is being trashed behind their backs.

Since the neocon power mongers can't be openly anti-liberal without blowing their cover, they pick on gays and flag-burners instead.

The Bible says:

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, Who is blessed for ever. A'-men.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is agianst nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in thier knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

wow, this is certainly an interesting question...I believe there are different reasons people are gay, it could be due to genetics, or maybe it's because they don't believe they're capable of being with someone of the opposite sex and choose to be with someone of the same gender, but honestly, I don't think nobody (not even a gay person) could easily answer this question for you. I think it basically comes down to this; they feel more comfortable being with somebody of the same sex and it's not anybody's place to question their lifestyle...if they've come to accept their sexuality then we should just leave them be, you can't convert them or change the way they feel about people, it's just the way they've come to accept themselves and how they choose to love someone.
