Hi Barbie,
I just wrote to you before seeing this question... here's my reply to this one...
I agree with what alot of the other answers are, but.... I happen to know some friends of my daughters are exactly what you're saying! They are racist and try to dress and talk like they're from chicago or new york and big and black, and listen to rap music.
These are younger kids, like 16-26. I even have asked them and a friend of mine who LOVES Jimi Hendrix, but is prejudiced all the same. I don't understand it. They just reply because "he" was a different kind of black person. Doesn't make sense !
I'll just quote what I say to people who put down blacks because of their color as I did 30 years ago when I moved from New York ( where I had as many, or more black friends, GOOD friends, than I did white ), now I said this in my 1st job in Ohio in a bar where I worked as I overheard a customer talking about "*******", I slammed down some empty glasses and said to him " ******* come in EVERY color". There are good and bad of any race or any type of people, we are all the same color underneath, so why should skin color matter.
As I said in my other reply to you, just ignor ignorant people!!!!!!
Oh yeah, I've been ripped off and raped ( 3x, in fact, that's how I lost my virginity at 13, the last time I was almost 18, graduated school, living with my "future" husband, and pregnant, and I lost the baby )and at the time living in a predominately black area, and the people that did these things to me were white ! So, if I should be prejudice at all, wouldn't you think it should be against whites?
I'm white and I know that not all white people are like those !!!
DUH ???? What more do I need to say ?

My guess is that those are generally two different groups of people.
One group would be the white people who hate black people. They're racists, of course. Who can account for hate? They fear those who are different from them, and maybe they feel threatened by the potential of black people. Maybe it just makes them feel alright if they can point to someone else as a problem.
The other group would be the white people who act like black people, as you say. Some of these people may just have an urban style. You don't think black people born and raised in predominantly white suburbs are trying to act white, do you?
But some white people are, no doubt, imitating black people. They see something they like... maybe it's identity, confidence, a certain "cool" they don't ascribe to whites... so they put on the act you refer to. I would guess those who do this are, for the most part, young and have not found their own identity yet.
That's my answer, for what it's worth! :)

I dont hate anyone.... but I think we all try to mimic each other. Its a form of flattery. I am irish living in Austrlia and UK for a short period and when ever I meet someone new they mimic my accent and ask how the potatoes are doing. People ask me to speak irish language so they can impress smeone else.
Personally i think you are in a fantastic race just as I am. With great traits , sense of styles, hair styles, mannerisms, words, sense of family, everything.
I dont hate black people, My bestie back in UK is a gorgeous woman of colour and we got on really well and we would both show and do things for each other from our heritage, both of us fully expecting the other to remember and put it in practise.
I kinda grasp what you are asking, but I really think that people who hate as well as act are people you shouldent give a second thought to. I know my heritage has already been watered down in the USA (having lived in NY for 6 months) and somehow integrated itsself to to everyday life.

I'm a white person and I think your exactly right. The reason I feel it is this way because alot of white people are insecure in who they are. I've always enjoyed friends that were black but never desired to act like a black person. Some of my closest friends were black. God made black people special and unique. I like the quote," Since God made us to be originals, why stoop to be a copy?"

The ones that hate us the most are the ones who are most jealous. Just look at how beautiful your skin is, if my skin was the opposite I would hate you to. But it don't worry about it. Its only skin deep. And most white people aren't like that.
I hang around white people all the time and it occurred to me that the one physical flaw some of them complain about is thier skin. whether it be acne, tanning, viens, whatever. I have heard white people complain about skin the way black people complain about hair.
Aren't YOU imitating a White girl by wearing your hair straight?

I doubt the ones that are haters are the ones trying to act like you. Those are 2 different types of people. But again the key word is SOME.
