I had to take it in college, and since I had flunked it in HS, I was scared, too.
Here's what you do:
A really wise person told me before I took it in college, there are rules in Algebra, and you must follow the rules. They were right, if you follow the rules you will do fine :-) .

1/ order of operation: when you have an equation, first do what's in brackets, then whats in parentheses, then multiply or divide, and finally add or subtract. If you follow the rules, you will process your numbers in the right order and get the right answers.

2/ learn the communitive, distributive and additive properties and what they mean.

3/ Never, ever, get behind. In any math class, if you get behind, you will make the class 10X harder just trying to catch up, IF you can catch up. Just make your class a priority and STAY CURRENT.

4/ Almost every book has the answers in the back (or at least every other question's answer). Do every problem in the book as you go, even if they are not assigned to you. Check the answers against the back of the book.
Doing these will make you remember how to do it, and you can then build on that knowledge.

The ones you miss are good, too, because that tells you what you need to study more or ask someone how to do (like here) or ask your teacher.

If your book explains something and it makes no sense, you can also search it on google.com or dogpile.com and maybe find it explained from another angle that makes sense.

You can do this. I did, and I got an A. Not too bad for a girl that almost flunked HS! You can do this, too, just work at it and don't be scared. You'll get it!

if i were you i would try to get a tutor or take a course at ur local Comunity college start with elementary algebra and work your way up. DO NOT TEACH YOURSELF or if you do be warn b/c s ome parts of algebra you can learn wrong and that would really scre you over. Congratz on pursuing higher education!!!

Get the book Algebra for dummies and go to your school union bulletin board and find a tutor.
