Austin is the only place to live in Texas. Its the only place I've been where I didn't feel the "don't mess with texas" vibe had completely wiped out everyone's brains.

Having lived in several different cities in Texas, the only thing I can ask is this? Do you like dry flat country or do you prefer humid green areas?

If you like dry and flat them Amarillo would be the place for you. It's a bit windy there day in and day out but it's a nice size city with both Spanish and English speaking people.

If you want something a larger, then San Antonio would be my choice. There's a lot to do in San Antonio. There's also a lot of heritage.

Btw, El Paso is also very nice. It's mountainous and dry too. So you may like it there as well. :)

Well, in Texas I pretty much guarantee that MOST schools have Bilingual classes. I live in Deep South Texas. If you want a good education, DON'T move here.. Houston, Amarillo, San Antonio. But then you have to deal with High population schools and more danger. My suggestion is is move to a small town that only has 1 or 2 schools. Kerrville, Rock Springs, Uvalde. Smaller classes, less crime, great teachers = good education!! GOOD LUCK!

I don't know where "Tex" gets his info about Houston.....and "constantly flooding".
Sure, there are some low laying areas that are prone to flood. But I have lived in the general Houston area for 40 years and I have NEVER had my house flooded. Of course, I'm smart enough not to build my house on the banks of the San Jacinto River.
It's true that Houston has humidity, but no more than any other city near the ocean, certainly not more than any place in Florida and most places in the Carolinas or Georgia. Humidity is better for a girl's skin than the dustbowls of Amarillo or Lubbock.

Major cities to avoid...El Paso...yuck, and Houston.

If you like flat land, and dry climate...Amarillo or Lubbock (I hope you like the color brown!)
If you like humidity and green trees everywhere...Dallas Fort Worth. Fort Worth over Dallas. Arlington is smack dab in the middle and has the Ballpark, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, and the Cowboys in 2007ish. And a super huge mall. Mansfield is a nice smaller town outside of Arlington.

I personally want to go to Austin. Rolling hills, cedar trees, culture.

Don't go too far down south. Stay Central to North central Texas. I like Lubbock too though.

San Antonio will be your best. its somewhat in the middle of everything. you have dallas (6hr drive), austin (1hr or so) to the north. going southeast a little bit you have houston/galveston (2hr drive). corpus christi is another 2 hr drive. there are alot to do in Texas if your willing to get on the road. Driving around the state is the best way to enjoy Texas.

Whatever you do, dont live in the middle of a big city. like dallas.
there is way too much traffic and way to many illegals running around. move up somewhere quiet like sherman or paris or bonham.
or you could go west but steer clear of el paso, too many illegals. The suburbs of ammirillo is kind where I would like to go one day.
