First, don't stretch everyday. You need to give your muscles time to relax. Stretch every other day. When you do stretch, do you have some kind of bar attached to a wall, or even a front porch railing? This is will increase your flexibility.

it is very important to stretch only when your muscles are very warm. research has shown this is the best time to increase flexibility. job, jumprope, get your cardio in and THEN stretch...make sure you hold each stretch for at least thirty seconds of you're not doing yourself any good. go deep into the stretch, close your eyes and breathe ine. as you exhale, go a little bit deeper. challenge yourself, but know your body's warning signs. don't hurt yourself.

Don't try out for the competition if you're not ready. You'll only make a spectacle of yourself if you did and you will end up embarrashing yourself.. There is no fast track to increase your flexibility, you'll only hurt yourself! Just practice gradually and try out for the next competition. GOOD LUCK!

Stretching is the key, but it only works if you counter stretch. Whatever muscles you are stretching, work them after the first stretch by ding the opposite. i.e. stomach crunches, and then roll over and pull yourself up, arch your back, and stretch your stomach muscles by pulling loose the muscles you just tightened. Try it, I'm sure that you'll be happy.

for me, i stretch two times in the morning and at night time. also, it will be easier to strech if you get warmed up first.
