I can't argue your point. I think banning any activity between consenting adults that does not harm others is a waste of time and an exercise in futility. But because conservatives run our country, anything they disapprove of becomes illegal. Elect more social liberals and some of this legislative waste would stop.

Sorry, I am having trouble following your questions . . . do you mean if it was legal? Polygamous marriage isn't legal except in the Middle East. To my knowledge, only a few countries allow gay relationships. I am not sure if they go so far as to recognize marriage. I think one website that used to be open was 3 coins or 3 rings, or something to that affect. I did notice they closed their website ranks so only members could see the couples and single women posting pictures seeking relationships.
Rest assured, that in the USA if & when gay relationships are permitted that polygamous relationships rights will follow. After all the pursuit for the right of gay marriages state by state, it appears the divorce lawyers are already benefiting.
Have you ever done an internet search on polygamous relationships? I always thought these were pursued by disadent Mormons. I was shocked to find a large number of fundamentalist Christians and Jews posting on various websites looking for a woman to add to their marriage. I was even more shocked to find that some of them were searching for straight and/or gay women to add. This usually goes against the grain of traditional polygomy practices.

I think that polygamy and gay marriage are very different things, but they are both illegal because it goes against the "traditional marriage" between a man and a woman.

Polygamists produce children. They claim to be Mormon and Mormons, like Catholics, traditionally do not use birth control. Thus, they produce really big families.
Children of polygamists do not have a choice in the matter. The women are abused. The children and abused and the little girls are molested and 'promised' off to nasty old men. They have no choice. They live in poverty. Been to Southern Utah lately?
A more accurate comparison would be polygamists and sex offenders.
Homosexuals unions are made of two people. They are private. You cannot compare the two. They are worlds apart.

First you have to define marriage and decide the purpose of the institution and what it requires.
Does it require love? Yes, but does that mean that anything you love you are able to marry? No, you can't marry your car, your favorite dish, your pet, your daughter/son, etc. Love is a factor but not the sole basis of marriage.
What is marriage for? Marriage's foundation is for survival of race and kind. What is required for survival of the kind? Two sexes, a male and a female. This is the sole purpose of marriage, is to form a cradle that permits offspring. Marriage creates a family unit.
Until gays can reproduce, marriage will not apply to them, and marriage was not meant for them. Love is not the only basis for marriage, it is one of many.
