You know from the great flood. He said this would be his sign that it would not happen again. It seems odd that this is the sign you are stealing for your pride. But it really doesnt matter because God will reclaim what is already his.

No matter what we chose to represent us someone would have a problem with it. Just what do you wish us to use as our symbol of pride? Nothing I`m sure, you most likely think we will all burn in eternal hellfire and all that drab stuff. I find it curious that it is perfectly alright for a man who gets a sex change to marry another man, yes this is legal. All you Christan's are so messed up that you don`t even know what you believe in. You need to tend to yourselves!!! Gays cant marry, gays are an abomination, all gays are going to hell, and now you don`t even want a rainbow to be associated with us. What is next, don`t you have anything better to do than think about gays all day and night, are you just a closet case and think if you point your finger enough no one will suspect you of being a homosexual. Get a life, and leave us alone.

Did you know that all throughout the Bible, Jesus commands his followers to be kind to their fellow man?

It seems odd that this book's central message is totally twisted by people who call themselves Christians, and used as the reason to hate groups of people, or to push a political agenda.

But it doesn't really matter, because God can tell the difference between real and false Christians.

By the way, the rainbow was given to all people, not just the straight ones.

Give that some thought.

Sure--it's God's promise that he will never again remake the Earth through flood. It's God's sign that God loves us, and will not recklessly destroy us again, no matter what we do (until the end of times). In other words, it is a sign that God allows us to make our own choices--and that includes the choice to be Gay, Bi-, Transgendered, etc. The rainbow is an excellent symbol for a group which has pride in itself enough to not fear the persecution of others. The willingness to make life choices w/o having to fear ultimate retribution. Praise the Lord who gave us free will.

A rainbow is just a beautiful thing created when sunlight catches the moisture in the air. It symbolizes rebirth, and that good things can come even from a storm.
Symbols have many meanings. What means one thing to you means another thing to me. I think that there are enough rainbows in the world, that God can share some :-)

Actually a rainbow is when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere.
Did you know that God also said:
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, Judge not lest ye be judged, Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Why are you so freaking concerned with what the gay community does or does not do? Why is it any of your business unless you are a part of that community?

You're a closet case. You need to see a good counselor to come to terms with your sexuality. Your previous eight year relationship with someone of the same sex (as stated in one of your other questions) is proof of this fact. You obviously feel a great deal of guilt for your sexuality, and I suggest you get some kind of help to deal with those issues. If you still feel the need to be Christian, there are countless gay friendly churches all over the US. I imagine that it was your family that pressured you into not being gay. I understand their feelings, but they obviously don't understand yours. If you believe homosexuality is a sin, fine but you need to realize that there are countless sins in the Bible, some of which are simple every day tasks that nearly all Christians do, that are spelled out in exactly the same way that homosexuality is. Certain Christians use the gay references in the Bible to make good Christians who happen to be gay, like you, feel as if God doesn't love them. Not only is this not very Christian like, it's very destructive to your mental state. You need to understand that God makes everyone in sin. Even those who claim to have been "born again" still sin. It's impossible not to sin with all the rules in the Bible. God knows this and this is why we are all forgiven. God would be much happier if you were in a truely loving relationship, then if you were to pretend to love someone of the opposite sex. When it comes down to it, you are pleasing your family, not God, and it's ruining your self-esteem, and over all mental health.

That is indeed a beautiful description of "why" a rainbow is formed, as are hundreds of other warm and fuzzy feel-good reasons for the meaning of rainbows.
Naturally this includes the one used for ▼GLBT▼ awareness, hope and unity.
However, none of these explain the real meaning for a rainbow's existence.

The rainbow is sunlight spread out into its spectrum of colors and diverted to the eye of the observer by water droplets.
The "bow" part of the word refers to the fact that the rainbow is a group of nearly circular arcs of color all having a common center. Typically, we only see a portion of the entire circle, leading to the bow shape.

Hope this sets you straight (pun definitely intended).

Best Wishes!

Our symbol makes sense, as all of the colors show diversity. What does a rainbow have to do with destroying the earth? Kinda random. Ergo, we win cause ours makes sense. :P

Seriously though, there's no reason it can't be both. Just as long as you know it's both and can react appropriately if someone misinterprets your use of the symbol (I can).

Anyone who's read the big fairy tale book knows the story of the rainbow.
At least now it stands for something that really exists.

Yes, we know about that etiology. Your God of the Old Testament also commanded that your parents give their first born as a sacrafice to him - were you the first born by chance?
