And why do some whites say that they like it the way it is and its the only "pure" sport left?

Because the main market is in blue collar white households. I, for one thing cannot support nascar because of its beginnings. It was invented by whiskey runners during the probation so they could improve their fast driving. This is evident in Tom Wolfe's essay, Junior Johnson: The Last American Hero. Second of all, Nascar is very hypocritical. They advertise jack daniels and smrinoff on the back of their cars. Thats basically saying that they promote DUI. Lastly, all of the drivers are white, so other cultures might not have an easy time watching it. It doesnt promote diversity like baseball which has hispanics, african-americans, asians, and whites. Some whites call it the only good sport because they feel it is rough and has very few rules. They like the action.

Actually there is an African American racing full-time in Nascar. His name is Bill Lester.
I think the biggest problem with Nascar throughout history has been their silence. I don't think Nascar is set on being a "white" sport. But when the time came to stand up for minorities on the track...they sadly kept their mouth shut.
Fast forward to recent years...The issues with driving in Nascar tend to revolve around money and sponsorship. I would love to see more drivers out there breaking through and proving themselves as drivers! No matter the race or sex!!
As for calling it a "pure" sport...I believe you may have misunderstood the meaning behind the statement.
There are fans of nascar who are racist and ignorant...but it has nothing to do with the sport they love, it is just because they are narrow-minded yahoos!!!

I would imagine that for some people it is, in part, the origins of the south. There are more and more African Americans getting interested in the sport. There are not currently any black drivers but NASCAR has been trying to change that.

But in all honesty, why does it matter? As long as a specific group is not being banned or discriminated against why does it matter who is into it? If people don't like something, why does someone always have to find a way to make it racial? Why does any group have to be recruited to be a part of something? There aren't a huge number of women who like boxing but does that mean that they have to be recruited?

As far as others "minorities" not liking the sport, that's all in choice...I think the main thing is there is hardly any "minority" drivers! There are very few women in Nascar, but there are still tons of women fans! As far as whites saying keep it like it is, that's a stereotype...as far as I am concerned, the more the merrier, regardless of race! I would love to so other types of fans and drivers!

Both of your premises are false.
You're guilty of attempting to smear "some whites" and fan the flames of racial prejudice. I've been a Nascar fan for 30 years and have NEVER heard ANYONE suggest that the sport is "pure" in the way you're insinuating.
Leave Nascar alone and do your race-baiting elsewhere.

That's a generality, however, I'd say that these minorities probably do not have the interest in nascar because their cultures are different and so are their likes and interests.

Also. remember that the origin of nascar was in the traditional American south. I think that explains a lot both in the minimal exposure of minorities to its roots and the enthusiasm show by Caucasian fans. This is not meant to be a judgmental statement. Just the way it is.

Mate, just forget everything that this guys before me have said!!! No offence but all those things is crap!!! Racing is a sport that requires a lot more concentration, technique and a lot more of tactics! NO OFFENCE again but these minorities you’ve mentioned are pretty much “intuition-players” (if I can say so) and that’s something that Football, basketball (and almost all the other sports) need in foremost amount! But racing is such a sport that needs no intuition but pre-calculation in everything! And the thing with the “last pure sport” it’s a bit of a racist thing to say, so don’t say it again (but it’s quite true to be honest)!!!

alot of my friends that happen to be black like nascar. those that don't are just like white folk that don't, they just hang in a circle that is not familiar with it. one of my buds said he'd like to go to a race but would feel like a chocolate chip on a huge mound of vanilla icecream...LOL!!! as far as the way it is and last pure sport thing, it might be how fickle football and baseball, (especially baseball) has been to us in the past 2 decade, taking away teams, adding new ones, going on strike ....etc....if your a browns fan for thirty years, even though they came back eventually, how do ya feel when your team becomes obselete?? no loyalty, no sense of tradition!! nascar always remembers that we, the fans, make them or break them and treat us with great respect, and anybody that thinks those guys aren't athletes are true idiots!!

I have been a nascar fan for 38 years,i grew up 10 miles from the nc moterspeedway in rockingham nc seen my first race in 1970 richard petty won it,Never did i hear one person tell a africa american he could not come to the race they chose not to because there was 50.000 whites there i am native american a member of the lumbee tribe in eastern nc, I went to the races in rockingham for 18 yrs in a row no one ever told me i could not people choose there own path I am so tired of people that know nothing about nascar its history or nothing,Then they watch it for 2or 3 seasons and think they know every thing,it takes lots of money to own a race team you dont put some one in a race car cause of there skin color, They are familys in nascar that have been in it for generations it is past down to the next generation,Lots of those drivers grew up doing just that racing like lots of black kids grew up playing basketball,It was whites that paid to see it on sunday and a few indians like me. i never hear anyone say they should be indians racing and telling nascar they should have some indians in the race cars, Its a common sense thing real simple If you want to race get you a million bucks to start with then go race, what makes you people think that a owner should put any one in his car, And if you cant drive nascar is not letting you on the track anyway, There is oppurtunity in nascar for any one who wants in but it is not a free sport, start like the others did learn to drive then find a owner that will give you a chance regardless of skin color, Dale earharndt Raced for 7 years before he could get in a winning car i know most of you think dale jr had it handed down to him on a silver platter but you are wrong.Dale sr made him earn his to.you people just need to do your history of nascar classes,Then you want have to ask these stupid questions.

no longer knowledgeable individuals. the only reason to no longer vote for the candidate is in basic terms by the guidelines he needs to enact. Socialized drugs, larger taxes, de structuring the militia and NASA, in basic terms to call some. Any time there are minorities in the conservative flow, they're belittled and ridiculed with the aid of their own race as being a puppet for the white guy. Conde Rice should be the subsequent NFL commissioner, no longer the subsequent President of u . s . a . of america.
