CHECK YOUR FREE ON PRESSURE, IF THE PRESSURE IS GOOD AND THE COMPRESSOR DOES NOT TURN ON THEN CHECK THE RELAY FOR THE AC COMPRESSOR. IF THAT IS GOOD. THEN YOUR COMPRESSOR IS NO LONGER GOOD.

Before you put any new refrigerant into the system you have to find out where the original refrigerant leaked out from and then you will have to fix that leak, once the leak is fixed you then have to evacuate any moisture that is in the system and that requires a special machine that only a repair shop could justify the cost of buying it (over a thousand bucks).therefore my advice is to take the car to a trusted repair shop that does a/c work and have them evaluate the system and then you will have to decide if the cost of doing the repair and recharging the system is worth it or not as you are dealing with a 14 year old car. Sorry if I could not be more helpful.

since you ahve a car built in the early nineties you shuold probably take it to a shop that will work on cars with R-12 refrigerant airconditioning since R-12 is no longer produced the cost of it is very expensive and you should go ahead and retrofit your a/c to r134a which is more enviromentally friendly and cheaper you will have to pay for the kits to retrofit it and then have the system leak checked preferably by a mechanic that is certified by either ase or macs and go from there
