You're looking for Andy Taylor, guitarist for Duran Duran and The Power Station. John Taylor is the bassist for Duran Duran and The Power Station.

He did put out one solo disc (in America) and it had a small hit called "Take It Easy" which was also featured in the gymnastics-themed film "American Anthem" starring Janet (Gretzky) Jones and US Olympian Mitch Gaylord.

It wasn't a hit movie but I did like it and even used the song in the band that I was in.

Not really familar with his none Duran Duran work, he was a member of the band, but he did release an album back in 2002 and has a website.
