I have this icon on my desktop that wont delete. I have tried renaming it, cant do it. Tried moving it, cant do it. tried compressing it, cant do it. Nothing will work. It is labeled "CA89YL1M" and has a size of 0 bytes and has no other information. Any ideas for destroying this fcuker?

I thought it might be a virus but the fact that its 0 bytes leads me to beleive that its not. Can a virus have a size of 0?

Many mistakes have been made tampering with a PCs internals while trying to delete a file, folder and so on.

Rather than risk making a "deadly" error in your registry, I found a solution the other day that helped me get rid of a "file from hell" that refused to be deleted. Like you, I also had an icon on my desktop (note, I said had) and it's now gone forever - yippee!

Here's a nifty little program that will help you. Not only is it free, but it's super simple to use and it doesn't use a lot of disk space...

Once the "file" or icon has been unlocked, you'll be able to delete it.

Enjoy! :-)

Did you right click and try to delete it? If that did not work, it sounds more like a persistent spy ware or even virus. That being the case, you would need Spy ware or virus removal tools. Good luck.

Try removing it by holding down SHIFT key while dragging the item to the Recycle Bin.

Just be careful because this will remove the item permanently, so you will not be able to undo once it's done.

It may be a program. Go into your control panel, click on add/remove software, and scroll down the list to see if its in there. If so, delete from there.
