I don't know about the "pretend" part but alot of people ( men and women) don't know how. As a building and remodeling contractor we also have a handyman service and you would be surprized at the number of calls we've had to light pilot lights.

Some are too scared to even try. Also, some play the "poor little me" thing to get attention, or to make their husband /boyfriend feel useful, manly and important. I once read an article that said you should ask your husband to open the pickle jar EVERY time you get a new one. I just laughed, I can open my own darn pickle jar...

I don't remember birthdays, so my wife sends the cards
(no matter how many times she reminds me).
My wife doesn't remember how to light the heater, so I do it
(no matter how many times I explain it).
Works out perfectly!

Because I hate to mess with anything related to natural gas. Including the propane grill, gas fireplace, etc!
Hubby can do it. Or Maintenance. I'm not messing with gas! LOL

just remember that women and maintenance don't go well together, if you want something screwed up then have a woman attempt to repair it

I don't pretend...I just do it, unfortunately not all women are willing to just "give it a shot".

maybe because if something were to go wrong, they would prefer someone elses face get blown off! That's why I do it...
