As mentioned, The Queen can knight you to a position of Sir or Lord / Dame or Lady. These are lifetime Peerage Titles and can not be passed from one generation to another. The title dies with the title holder. Paul McCartney is a Sir, Andrew Lloyd Webber is a Lord. A Lord is above a Sir.

Several companies will sell you a title but its not worth the paper its printed on.

Or you can be very lucky - as I was - and be born into a title.
Lord Michael McKee
9th Cousin to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth

You must be nominated, and then accepted, to the Order of the British Empire in the UK. Self-nominations are rare but they are not outright refused.

Nominees are considered on the basis of having done a great service, either to the UK or to humanity in general. You need not be a British subject to be nominated.

Unfortunately, the office is lately cheapened by the current tendency to knight pop-culture icons. These may have indeed done some very worthy things, but they do so from a position of affluence. Many others, laboring in poverty and anonymity for the same causes, go ignored.

You have to be knighted...at least at the OBE level (Order of the British Empire). There are other orders of knighthood, CMG, KCMG, and GCMG...and so on.

Oh, and "Christian", be careful misrepresenting yourself with a title, it can land you in court. No lie.
